What are we?
NORTH AMERICAN BASQUE ORGANIZATIONS, Inc. (a.k.a. N.A.B.O.) was started in 1973 with the intent of helping its member organizations to assist each other in the pursuit of the same objective: the perpetuation of “Basqueness” (Basque culture & identity). As a non-profit, our mission is to preserve and promote Basque culture, and learning Euskara is one way to embrace our culture. For more information on N.A.B.O. check out our main website.
Eta NABO Euskara?
And NABO Euskara?
Since its inception, the N.A.B.O. Basque Section has had, among its main objectives, the promotion of the Basque language in the Basque diaspora in North America.
The N.A.B.O. Basque Department was created 20 years ago under the direction of Martin Goikoetxea. Since then, the Basque language has been promoted in the Basque Centers and Clubs of North America and Canada, which are members of the N.A.B.O. It seems to us that the time has come to write and consolidate the steps made in this twenty-year journey, but also to reformulate the Basque Section of N.A.B.O. with new eyes.
In 2013, N.A.B.O. and HABE signed a partnership agreement to teach Basque in the United States and Canada. In addition, HABE was responsible for providing N.A.B.O. with all necessary materials for teacher training and use in the classroom.
Since 2018, this collaboration has been carried out through the Etxepare Basque Institute
